IT Security for Environmental Monitoring Networks

Every day we are confronted with hacker attacks on private and public institutions on the Internet. Enormous financial losses as well as the failure of important infrastructure are the result. Today, environmental measurement networks have also become part of the Internet and are thus at the mercy of the same threats. An attack on hydrological and meteorological measurement networks seems to be only a matter of time.

Logotronic has therefore already started to deal with this topic a few years ago. Environmental measurement networks must be viewed in a fundamentally different light compared to the classic IT security of data centers and central servers, since the network participants (measurement stations) are sometimes located outside physically protectable areas and the environmental conditions (e.g., temperature range) are also special. Building on projects already carried out, we have developed not only comprehensive know-how in the authentication, confidentiality, encryption and data integrity sector on the Internet, but also concrete network structures and methods that can be provided for new installations, but can also be applied to existing measurement networks.
